In this speech I outline my support for the government’s new crime and community‑safety bill, drawing on my experience as a former police officer. Earlier laws created long‑term problems. The new Adult Crime, Adult Time measures, tougher drug responses and designated safety precincts will make Queensland safer. I highlight the work of North Queensland MPs, the Youth Justice Minister, the Attorney‑General and police, and emphasise that the reforms focus on victims and give officers practical tools such as penalty infringement notices for drug offences. I commend the committee’s work and reaffirm my commitment to helping Queenslanders feel safe in their communities.
