Daniel’s Law

In this speech in Parliament, I speak in strong support of this important legislation, Daniel’s Law. It is an election commitment we made to the Morcombe family. I express my deep admiration for Bruce and Denise Morcombe, who turned their unimaginable loss into a powerful legacy for child safety. I recall how Daniel’s disappearance on 7 December 2003 coincided with my own son’s birthday, and that personal connection reminds me each year of the Morcombes’ courage. As a former police officer, I have seen the devastation caused by sexual assault, and I know how vital this law is. Daniel’s Law, with its three-tiered sex offender register, strengthens child protection and empowers parents and communities to act on their instincts. I thank the committee, my colleagues, and the Morcombes for their tireless work. Through their efforts, Daniel’s legacy will continue to keep children safe.
