Electoral Laws (Restoring Electoral Fairness) Amendment Bill 2025

In this speech I speak in support of the Electoral Laws (Restoring Electoral Fairness) Amendment Bill 2025 and emphasise the importance of fairness in our democracy.  I welcome this bill for restoring balance in line with the original recommendations of the Belcarra report. I support the introduction of political donation caps that align with New South Wales and Commonwealth standards, ensuring transparency and consistency. I also back the provision preventing prisoners serving one year or more from voting, maintaining that serious offenders should not participate in electing lawmakers. I highlight that these reforms strengthen accountability, reduce corruption risks and return sensibility to the system. I am proud to be part of a government that delivers on its commitments and works to restore electoral fairness for all Queenslanders.
