Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Bill

In this speech I outline my support for the Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Bill, drawing on my experience as committee chair and as a former police officer and crash investigator. I describe how our inquiries in Brisbane and Cairns highlighted both industry professionalism and concerns, especially around the definition of an unfit driver and confusion about fatigue rules. I note industry challenges, welcome practical reforms such as reduced fines and greater discretion for enforcement officers, and commend the bill for supporting Queensland’s trucking industry. Without trucks, Australia stops.
