I was proud to table Report No. 21, 58th Parliament – Inquiry into e‑mobility safety and use in Queensland on 4 March 2026. In this speech, I outline how the committee delivers nation‑leading recommendations to improve the safety, regulation and coordination of e‑mobility across Queensland. We examine issues ranging from rider behaviour and pedestrian interactions to battery safety, enforcement powers and harmonised regulation across all levels of government. Hearing from communities affected by injuries and the 12 deaths last year, several involving children, reinforces the urgency of reform. With over 1,200 submissions, the inquiry shapes practical, comprehensive measures including stronger rules for riders, clearer standards for devices, new offences and penalties, and initiatives to support schools and local governments. I emphasise that reform requires tough decisions, but they are essential to protect Queenslanders and ensure e‑mobility remains safe, sustainable and beneficial for all.
