In this speech I support the Queensland Building and Construction Commission and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025. I emphasise that our committee’s work focuses on worker safety and streamlined, modern information sharing between the QBCC and the OIR. I reject the opposition’s claims about duplication, noting that digital reporting improves efficiency while retaining paper options for those who need them. I acknowledge Mr Garrels’s contribution and affirm that his concerns were taken seriously. I highlight the strategic leadership of the new commissioner and the government’s coordinated approach to addressing Labor’s housing crisis through tranche 3 reforms. I stress that worker safety remains paramount, informed by my own experience in high-risk environments. The bill’s review periods ensure accountability as digitisation progresses. One clear reporting pathway strengthens safety outcomes, and industry supports this direction. For these reasons, I back the bill.
