The Gatton-Helidon Road safety upgrades project has been completed ahead of schedule, delivering a safer drive for Lockyer Valley motorists.

This safety improvement project has transformed a key stretch of road between Robinsons Road at Gatton and the Warrego Highway interchange at Helidon, with key features of the upgrade including:

  • wider lanes to improve traffic flow
  • safer intersections to reduce congestion and improve access
  • roadside hazard removal to enhance safety for all road users.

Construction was staged across four sections, with two contractors working simultaneously to fast-track delivery and minimise disruption. Despite weather-related delays earlier this year, the project remained on-track and is now complete ahead of the original target of the end of 2025.

The project was jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Road Safety Program.

Member for Lockyer Jim McDonald said the Crisafulli Government was proud to deliver this upgrade ahead of schedule and thanked the community for their patience.

“It is great to see the early completion of the Gatton–Helidon Road upgrade, and the benefits it’ll bring to the Lockyer Valley,” Mr McDonald said.

“This project is delivering long-term safety and efficiency benefits, and we appreciate the community’s understanding during the works.

“Gatton–Helidon Road now offers a safer and more efficient journey for everyone who travels through the region.

“I’d like to express my thanks to the community, for your patience and support throughout the construction period.

“Now, with works complete, I would like to encourage commuters and locals to take a trip through Grantham and support the town’s businesses.”
